In January of 2007 RTG was taken over by a subsidiary company by the name of Hastings International in the Netherlands. Prior to all of this, in 2004 the company made headline news when an individual player cashed in on $1.3 million winnings from a deposit of $1,000 playing Caribbean 21 at Hampton Casino in a game of high stakes. He followed this up with a $96,000 winning at Delano Casino, one of RTG’s powered sites. The casino accused the player of cheating by using a robot, litigation ensued and the outcome was never published; however, RTG went on to place a betting limit of $5 on the game then eventually removing it all together.
At one point, RTG’s largest casino operator was Crystal Palace Group, owned by Warren Cloud of South Africa. His casinos became the subject of major complaints by players and their payments from bonuses. Cloud was subsequently found dead on his yacht in July of 2008 at the young age of 34.
Besides Crystal Palace, other casinos under the operations of RTG have been under scrutiny as well and have been listed as rogue by sites that maintains a list of casinos powered by RTG. Nevertheless, RTG still maintains licensees that are billionaires like Calvin Ayre and continues to be one of the top online casino companies today.
